Bill Cosby is responsible for revitalizing the sitcom genre back in the ‘80s, when television networks like NBC were struggling to bring audiences to the screen in the evening. His TV show “The Cosby Show” was an ‘80s hit and now it looks like NBC is looking to bank on that success.

Deadline confirms that Cosby has struck a deal with the TV network to produce a half-hour sitcom with Cosby in the starring role. The idea behind the show is pretty similar to that of the original one, in which he played a patriarch figure for a multi-generation family.

Cosby will be bringing his views on parenting and family values to the public's attention, from the position of the wise patriarch. It remains to be seen whether these views are still in conformity with the public's ones and whether this new show will manage to fair as good as the last one.

For this new comedy, Cosby will be partnering with producer Tom Werner, his longtime collaborator, with whom he also worked on “The Cosby Show.” The two are said to be planning this family comedy show for a while now with hopes of reaching a wide audience.
