People search is a big red danger area for any sites attempting to add it to their requisitory, even as an idea. Many have tried to do this and still try (take Facebook for example, or any other social networking site that deals with a lot of personal information), but that always lead to a lot of talk about privacy and the likes of it. Big shady area, if you care to imagine it.
Yet here comes
BigSight.org, a site attempting to fill
in just that niche, which has so far been taboo, and to cast away the shadows mentioned in the above paragraph with a shiny white background. Thus, the privacy problem is resolved with a lot of good will and, unlike the other sites going for the same area of expertise like Wink and Spock, this site focuses on the creation of a centralized repository of profile information, instead of crawling the web to collect personal information from disparate sources, as Mark Hendrickson of TechCrunch.com noted.
The profiles are created by the individuals themselves and it looks like there must be some activity going on with your account, if you choose to create one, or else, if untouched for about two quarters, you might just find yourself no longer there, profile removed and all that.
What is new with the site is the option to import a profile directly from Facebook. This has come probably because, from the moment it was launched, it has only managed to gather about one thousand users and profiles. How about it, wouldn't you want to get your profile set up for you just like that? It will include all the data that you made available to Facebook, mind you that. In case you don't like it , it's your choice to delete it or just leave it unattended and it will disappear because of the reason mentioned above - inactivity.
