A recent leaked build of Windows 8.1 Update 1 claimed to be the RTM Escrow version that Microsoft finalized in early February and sent to partners for testing purposes.

While the RTM Escrow build is basically a version of the operating system that won’t receive any new updates, but only bug fixes and performance improvements, we’re hearing that Microsoft is still hard at work on the upcoming release, so more changes could be made before the update hits the market.

We don’t have any specifics on the features to be changed in the upcoming builds, but it’s pretty clear that the big stars of the release are going to be the options to pin Metro apps to the taskbar and launch them in their own windows.

On the other hand, it’s pretty clear that no Start Menu would be included in the update, despite the early reports pointing to such a feature in the upcoming version of Windows 8.1.
