Big Boi of Outkast has been arrested on drug possession charges, says it’s a misunderstanding

Big Boi from Outkast has been arrested in Miami over the weekend, after he was found in possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. The rapper has been released on bail, it has emerged.

The star was taken into custody in Miami where, upon a search on his person, police officers found drugs and drug paraphernalia, TMZ reports.

Bail was set at $16,000 and Boi has already been released, pending trial. However, his attorney is adamant that the arrest was just a misunderstanding, since the drugs were clearly not his.

“According to the Miami-Dade County Corrections Department, Mr. Boi (real name Antwan Patton) was charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia,” the e-zine says.

“The controlled substances were listed as ecstasy pills, MDMA powder and Viagra. According to the Miami-Dade County Corrections Department, all charges are felonies,” TMZ further writes.

The exact details of the arrest have not been made public, but the e-zine claims to have it on good authority that the drugs were on Boi when he touched American soil.

“Law enforcement sources tell us he was busted by customs and border patrol dogs as he was exiting a cruise ship. We’re told Big Boi didn’t have a prescription for the Viagra,” TMZ reports.

He was released later on bond, set at $16,000. Shortly after, Boi’s attorney issued a statement on the arrest, saying it was a misunderstanding in that the drugs were not his client’s.

“A small amount of contraband was found in the collective luggage. I am confident when the entire facts are aired Big Boi will be completely exonerated,” Daniel Kane is cited as saying.

While that seems like an excuse any good attorney would invoke to explain drugs on a client, in Boi’s case, it might actually be true, voices online are saying: this is his first arrest of the kind, having been an exemplary citizen so far.
