14 DAY TRIAL // If Mtron's products are by far the fastest solid-state drives on the market, then BiTMICRO is undoubtedly the king in pushing the SSDs' storage capacity over the safety railing.
While other companies are struggling to out 128 GB devices, BiTMICRO has succeeded in launching 416 GB drives and get ready for a live demo of an 832 GB SSD unit. The 832GB SATA 2.5" solid-state disk is announced for demonstration at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show.
Just like the "smaller" 416 GB drive, the 832GB SSD is part of BiTMICRO's E-Disk Altima family built with multi-level cell (MLC) NAND flash memory for increased storage density. Company reports show that the drive will be able to pump sustained rates of up to 100 MB per second and up to 20,000 I/O operations per second
"This latest product pre-announcement seeks to establish BiTMICRO's commitment to deliver solid state storage in all market applications," said Rudy Bruce, BiTMICRO's Executive VP for Marketing and Sales. "We are excited to offer E-Disk Altima SATA flash solid state drive as a PC and enterprise storage alternative offering the best-in-class capacity, performance and reliability."
The smaller, 416 GB unit has been announced since September 2007, when the company promised that sampling would begin in the first quarter of 2008. According to the September announcements, the drives were scheduled to hit the retail market in late March, but the company has revised its roadmap and announced that sampling will begin starting the second quarter of 2008, while the products will arrive later, in the third quarter.
The retail price for the 832GB SSD unit has not been announced yet. Considering the fact that a 128GB unit can exceed $4000, the 832 GB model will certainly bear a five-digit price that would cover the costs of purchasing a brand-new sports car.
