From at least one perspective, at any rate, though it will take a while to ship

There is some definite potential in the latest invention of BiTMICRO, just looking at the numbers will make that clear, in a manner of speaking.

Solid state drive technology developer BiTMICRO just announced a new SSD controller.

This is not just any controller, but one which has maximum performance higher than that of today's solutions by a very great deal.

The same applies to the capacity it can cope with in a solid state drive.

To offer some context, SandForce chips, which are basically the best at the moment, have upper limits of 60,000 IOPS for random writes.

BiTMICRO's chip will have what it takes to push things all the way to 400,000 IOPS.

Meanwhile, the top SSD capacity that storage makers will be allowed to cram onto a single drive is 5 TB.

That is a far cry from the 256 GB or 512 GB of today, although, true enough, buyers will have to fork up lots of money for such a monster.

The worry might not apply that much, though, since the controller is meant for enterprise products, not consumer ones.

“The completion of the new platform design is considered a major achievement in our business strategy. Being a pioneer in this industry, we realize the need to adapt to the demands of new markets and explore new technologies using our Research and Development team,” said Rey Bruce, CEO of BiTMICRO Networks.

“Proven by our growing patent portfolio, we are committed to continue our innovation efforts in addressing the need for storage with the right cost-performance mix. It is with high anticipation that we see these technologies come to fruition and work for our customers.”

Market testing will start some time in 2012, the first half. By then, SandForce, or others, will probably have made something new too. No news on that front, though.
