Today, Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia announced a partnership with India’s carrier Bharti Airtel for the launch of a custom flavor of the Nokia Xpress Browser in the country.

The new flavor of the app is compatible with a variety of Nokia devices and is meant to provide more users with the possibility to access the web while on the go at cheap rates.

The Nokia Xpress Browser was designed to offer up to 85 percent more efficient mobile browsing when compared to conventional solutions, Nokia notes.

Not only will users be able to surf the web more cost-efficiently than before, but they will also enjoy fast speeds when accessing services such as search, rich web apps and social networking.

The mobile application provides web site optimizations, thus loading them faster on Nokia’s Series 40 devices such as the Nokia Asha smartphones.

According to Nokia, the custom flavor of the Xpress Browser aimed at Airtel subscribers will provide an enhanced experience, through delivering one-click access to Airtel’s premium content, as well as fast discoverability of rich content.

The custom flavor of the mobile browser will arrive on devices in the coming week, and all Nokia-Airtel consumers will be provided with the possibility to upgrade to it.

Nokia’s Xpress Browser has already seen important traction among mobile phone users in India. In 2012, four times more Airtel customers started using the browser, when compared to the previous year.

The browser is cloud-accelerated, providing users with a smarter Internet experience on their devices. According to Nokia, its Nokia Xpress platform, including the Nokia Xpress Web App Builder, can be used as the base for new Internet experiences.

“More and more people are experiencing the Internet for the first time and we believe this initiative will further accelerate that. This is a first of its kind partnership for Nokia in India and we are sure that the customized Nokia Xpress Browser for Airtel consumers will provide them with a richer and more immersive mobile browsing experience,” said Viral Oza, director marketing, Nokia India.

The Nokia Xpress Browser can be used on Series 40 phones such as the Nokia C3-00, Nokia C2-03 and Nokia X3-02. The app comes pre-loaded on all current and future Nokia Series 40 handsets, and can also be downloaded from the Nokia Store, via this link.

“We are witnessing tremendous growth in mobile internet usage in India and are glad to be partnering with Nokia to offer our users a customized and enhanced browsing experience including one-click access to our premium content and services. We believe the superior browsing experience offered by Nokia Xpress Browser will accelerate mobile internet adoption and engagement,” said N Rajaram, chief marketing officer, Bharti Airtel.
