Veteran Ubisoft designer Michel Ancel believes that his long-in-development project, Beyond Good & Evil 2, could work on current-generation consoles like the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360, but he emphasizes that next-gen platforms, like the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, are much better suited to welcoming the experience.

Beyond Good & Evil is one of the cult classic experiences from Ubisoft, and fans have desired a sequel even since Jade first graced the PC, PS2, GameCube, or original Xbox many years ago.

Sadly, while a sequel had been confirmed to be in development a few years ago, work has apparently stopped, as designer Michel Ancel couldn't realize his vision for the game on current-generation platforms.

As such, fans of the series have eagerly awaited any news concerning the project now that next-gen consoles, the PS4 and Xbox One, are set to appear this year.

According to Ancel, who talked with GameReactor, Beyond Good & Evil 2 may have worked on current consoles, but a lot of development time would have been spent on optimizing the game to work on the old devices.

"I think [on current platforms] Beyond Good & Evil 2 was possible, but it'd be painful. It's always possible to do anything on any kind of console, but sometimes you need to spend your energy not on the optimizations or things like that," he said.

While Ancel declined to say anything about the actual project, he noted that next-gen consoles are much better suited for a potential Beyond Good & Evil sequel.

"Now that we have the [new] consoles around the corner we're working on them. We're trying to see how we can get the power out of those consoles because there are still things we need to understand on those consoles, but yes, Beyond Good & Evil is a project I always have in mind and I hope good things will come for this project very soon."

As of yet, however, Ubisoft still isn't talking about Beyond Good & Evil 2.
