Beyond Good & Evil 2 was first confirmed as being in development in 2008, but Ubisoft failed to offer updates on the progress of the game since then, and it seems that fans will have to wait a little longer before getting their hands on the title.

Michel Ancel, the creator of the Rayman series and the leader of the Beyond Good & Evil team at Ubisoft, said at the Toulouse Game Show that “We are in an active creation stage and at this moment we are only focusing on the game and making it the best game that we can.”

He added, “We focus on the game. We create it first, then we’ll see what can run it. We don’t say 2013 because we don’t know when it will come. We’re working to create a great game and it needs more tech.”

Ancel had previously suggested that he was interested in creating entire new technologies for Beyond Good & Evil 2 and that the game would only be delivered on next-generation gaming platforms.

The veteran developer confirms that the game will be based heavily on parkour and adds that the closest currently available titles are Prince of Persia and Assassin’s Creed, another two series that Ubisoft publishes.

He also says that the idea for Beyond Good & Evil 2 first came up before developer DICE and publisher Electronic Arts revealed their own Mirror’s Edge, another title that is currently rumored to be in development.

Ancel mentions that his next game will use a dynamic camera system that will follow main character Jade and will deliver a better action experience.

Rumors suggested in 2010 that Beyond Good & Evil 2 was being canceled, but the development team has since then confirmed that it was only taking a break in order to deliver the most recent Rayman video game.
