It was quite a surprise to see
Ubisoft announce, last year, that Beyond Good & Evil 2 was in development and that the creator of the first game in the series was leading the work on the sequel. After all, the title was very niche, tackled some complex issues and featured more sneaking than fighting.
Michel Ancel, who also created the original title in the series, says that the sequel will benefit from the power of the current generation consoles to fully realize the potential of the franchise. The first trailer for the game looks incredible, although it is not probably made of in-game footage. Still, it exemplifies the cinematographic vision that the development team wants to implement.
Ancel thinks that the sequel is set to reflect the themes that dominate the contemporary world. He told All Gamers that “There were a lot of inspirations: the Miyazaki universe, my own inspirations, politics and the media; the theme of September 11 - the CNN show with army messages and the fear climate. And it was a mix from other universes.”
At the moment, the developer is not talking about a release date for the game, mainly because it is still prototyping various ideas that might or might not be featured in the final release. Michel Ancel, who is leading the team working on the title, said that “We could have finished the game but we want BG&E2 to bring something to the videogame universe,” which is quite an interesting position from a developer. The platforms on which
Beyond Good & Evil 2 will arrive are not set in stone either, and even a Nintendo Wii version is possible.
Other than that, the characters from the initial game will return, bearing the marks of their previous adventures. With a plot inspired from current events and touching on important themes, Beyond Good & Evil 2 will surely be a great game.
