Not only did Beyonce surprise her fans with a massive “visual album” release, but she also managed to do something else in the early hours of Friday morning: she crashed iTunes.

Beyonce's self-entitled fifth studio album was released in secrecy and pretty much out of the blue exclusively on the iTunes platform, and even if the release took place around midnight on December 13, fans immediately scrambled to download all her 14 news songs, as well as the new 17 videos that came with them.

Daily Mail reports that the surge in traffic “caused iTunes to temporarily crash,” confirming one more time there's a reason people call her “The Queen.” The album is currently retailing at $16 (€11,6) on iTunes, but it will probably also be released on more traditional formats next year.

Though it was not announced through the usual media outlets, news spread like wildfire, especially through Twitter, as people began mentioning the singer in their status updates, praising this move and the final product.
