14 DAY TRIAL // Beyonce is one of the most successful artists of the moment, and her rapper husband is just as much of money maker as she is. As such, it should probably come as no surprise that Bey’s Christmas present was, well, a bit special.
Hermes Birkin handbags are a celebrity must-have but the problem with them, as we also reported a while back, is that they’re so expensive because they’re exclusive.
Clearly, that’s not an impediment for Jay Z, who did some last-minute Christmas shopping and spend about half a million dollars on accessories only, as PageSix writes in a recent piece.
“Beyonce got some sweet gifts [for Christmas]. Her husband, Jay-Z, was spotted shopping at Hermes’ plush Madison Avenue boutique on Christmas Eve,” the tab writes.
An eyewitness can confirm for PageSix that, indeed, Jay Z shopped at Hermes, picking out several Birkin bags for his lovely wife. And then some, says the spy.
“Jay was in a private room of Hermes doing last-minute shopping. He had a guard standing watch outside. He spent $350,000 on Birkin bags, among other things,” the source explains.
However, even with enough money to indulge Beyonce’s every fashion whim, Jay Z also wanted to make sure he picked out only the best for her, so he was in the store for quite some time.
“The buying binge took so long, Jay-Z missed his scheduled lunch at Nello, prompting the restaurateur to deliver his food to the store,” PageSix writes.
“Jay-Z has plenty to spend – he’s getting $1 million to perform at the opening of the Cosmopolitan hotel and casino in Vegas on New Year’s Eve. His rep declined to comment,” the tab further says.
Birkin totes are famously expensive: just recently, for instance, Christie’s auctioned a very rare piece called the Rouge Moyen alligator Birkin, made in 1998, for £49,250 (over $75,000). It’s the most expensive purse ever to be sold by Christie’s.
