Move over, British royalty! The proper American royalty is coming to a town near you. Several reports in the British media are saying that rapper Jay Z and singer wife Beyonce have already purchased a very swanky townhouse in London and that they plan to move there shortly.

The Daily Mirror says that the musicians have just bought themselves a €6.6 million ($9.2 million) townhouse in the British capital. Initially, the couple began their search on the outskirts of the city, in areas known as Mayfair and the Cotswolds, but eventually decided that it was better to stick to the city.

In the end, they bought a detached property in West London, and the deal is said to have gone down almost one month ago.

The reasons for the big move can be understood if we take a look at the couple's schedule for the coming months. Both Jay Z and Beyonce are going to spend significant time in Great Britain this year, so they probably decided that it would be wise to invest in a home away from home.

Just last week, Jay and Bey announced a joint US stadium tour, reportedly going by the name of “Mr. and Mrs. Carter Show,” that is expected to come over across the pond this autumn.

A source close to the couple is quoted as saying that “Both Jay and Beyonce are Anglophiles and have been toying with the idea of getting a pad for a couple of years now. On previous trips, they have stayed in five star hotels and, on one occasion, a rented mansion. While money isn’t an issue, it makes sense for them to have a more permanent base and get to know one particular area.”

The press was quick to notice that their new home in London is not only close to several posh restaurants and the Portobello market, but also to a number of top primary schools, indicating that Blue Ivy could very well spend some time on the island as well.

The couple is shying away from media attention these days, and moving to London could be a way of removing themselves from the paparazzi-rich environment in Los Angeles and New York. This is also the reason they refuse to attend Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's wedding, despite the fact that Jay and Kanye are very good friends.

Reportedly, the couple is also not very fond of the idea of the entire wedding being filmed and broadcast by E! To make amends, Jay has allegedly offered to pay for Kanye's bachelor party which is said to take place at the trendy New York club 40/40.
