For those of you who thought that Beyonce’s upcoming album “4” was all about female empowerment and independence, the diva debuted a brand new song on last night’s American Idol finale to prove you wrong. “1+1” is quite of the opposite of all that, a gorgeous love ballad.

It’s no secret that Beyonce is a brilliant performer; in fact, she is one of the most appreciated artists of today for the quality of her live performance, of which she gives proof time and time again.

Last night was no exception: Beyonce took to the stage to announce that she would perform her favorite song off the upcoming album, a love ballad, as the video below will confirm.

For once, she didn’t need the support of countless backup dancers, complicated stage props and whatever else she usually throws in in her live performances: the performance of “1+1” was just Beyonce, the live accompaniment and, most importantly of all, Beyonce’s powerful voice.

As PopCrush also notes, this was Beyonce’s second appearance on the AI stage of the night, since, earlier on, she’d joined the ladies in the competition this season for a medley of her most popular songs as a solo artist.

“That’s what we call launching a new song to the biggest possible audience,” the e-zine says. Indeed, Beyonce couldn’t have chosen a better venue to introduce the new song than American Idol.

“Performing in a haze of red lights and wearing a platinum-silver gown and loose, beachy waves, Beyonce made love to the crowd as she belted out this lovestruck ballad,” PopCrush says.

“You’d have thought her hubby Jay-Z was in the front row – since she looked so adoringly at the crowd and sang the ultra romantic lyrics directly to it,” the e-zine adds.

Indeed, there was nothing but pure feeling in Beyonce’s voice as she sang to the crowd about how she had nothing if she had no love, in what can be seen as the ultimate and most beautiful declaration of love she’s ever made.

“It’s a signature Beyonce ballad and it’s softer and prettier than her current single, ‘Run the World (Girls.)’ Her only sonic accessory was the piano melody, so the song is all about Beyonce and her room-filler of a voice,” PopCrush also notes.

Check out the video of Beyonce performing “1+1” below and, as usual, enjoy.
