Much-hyped tour movie didn’t even get 1 million viewers

Sometimes, even Beyonce can’t get viewers to tune in. The singer’s most recent release, the concert movie / tour documentary On the Run, which aired this week on HBO, scored less than 1 million views, which is low enough to make it a major “flop.”

Considering this is Beyonce and Jay Z we’re talking about, the industry’s most powerful couple, the ratings were dismal.

TV By the Numbers reports that the highest rated cable original on the day the HBO On the Run special aired was College Football (Oregon / Washington State), with a 1.2 adults 18-49 rating. “Attack on Titan was the top non-sports original, earning 0.6, down from last week's 0.7 adults 18-49 rating,” the report adds.

Meanwhile, the couple’s much-hyped project got well under 900,000 viewers, which means it didn’t even make it in the Top 20 cable shows airing that night. Beyonce’s previous HBO documentary was a huge hit and actually kept celebrity bloggers, glossies, and fans talking about it for days afterwards. This one almost went unnoticed.

On the Run documented the couple’s most recent joint tour of the same name, which wrapped in Europe earlier this month. It turned out to be of great interest to fans and the media alike, particularly because of a certain divorce rumor that started making the rounds shortly before the first show.

Beyonce’s father / former manager told the press some time ago that the rumor had been planted by camp Bey to boost ticket sales for the tour. Too bad its effect didn’t include the HBO documentary as well.
