As much as we praised Beyonce's
Video Music Awards performance, we would like to say that maybe, just maybe, she is prone way too much to inspire herself from what others did, than she was ever before in her entire career.
Every time somebody said on the Internet or in the media that her latest album, 'B' Day' is nothing original, but just a compilation of bits and pieces 'borrowed' from other artists, we just thought that they were being mean with her, out of envy, we suspected.
Incidentally, they were right, up to a point. As a singer, I imagine, it's inevitable not to let yourself be influenced by some other singer out there, by his/her beats, or dance routines, or whatever. But to totally copy and re-enact a routine you have already performed on a previous occasion yells 'lack of originality'.
When we covered the VMA topic, we said that 'Ring the Alarm' was the best part of the entire evening, with Beyonce giving the people in the audience the time of their lives. If I'm not mistaken, even the word 'perfection' was used a couple of times in relation to her live bit.
Now, we see that it was nothing else than a part taken from the Destiny's Child rendering of 'Soldier', only that then it was men who danced, not girls. But the resemblance is so big that it's almost scary... What more to say? We still like her and her 'Ring the Alarm', even if the idea for the performance was not original.
