Students and staff of the University of Texas at San Antonio should be on the lookout these days for a cleverly designed phishing scam.

The malicious emails, identified by experts from security firm Avast, are entitled “Your e-mail will expire soon” and they appear to come from a legitimate UTSA address, [email protected].

“Dear User, Your e-mail will expire soon. To avoid any interruption please click the link below and upgrade your e-mail,” the bogus notifications read.

The emails have nothing to do with the University of Texas. Instead, those who click on the link are taken to a phishing website that’s designed to harvest personal information.

Users, not only ones from UTSA, are advised to verify the legitimacy of an email before clicking on the links it contains. If you can’t determine right away if the message is genuine, check out the link and see if it takes you to a trusted domain.
