Fake AVs, rogue pharmacies, streaming sites and BHSEO

Since these days a large part of the world is searching every corner of the Internet for all sorts of UEFA Euro 2012 content, cybercriminals have used the situation to their advantage and started launching malicious operations.

Trend Micro experts have come across fake antiviruses advertised on websites that almost perfectly replicate the genuine uefa.com domain.

They also discovered that many scammers have turned to Blackhat Search Engine Optimization (BHSEO) to promote their “products,” so you should be careful when clicking on the results brought up by a search engine. Just because it’s among the first results it doesn’t mean that it’s safe.

Fake video streaming sites have also popped up, but instead of offering live footage, they take the victim to a survey page that’s part of an affiliate marketing scam.

Social media websites have also been flooded with all sorts of plots designed to push rogue browser extensions that can make posts on the user’s behalf.

Finally, Euro 2012-themed spam that leads to fake pharmacy sites completes the list of threats.

Be wary and stay safe!
