14 DAY TRIAL // Now that Iron Man 3 is out, many users who don’t plan on watching it at a cinema might try to find it online. However, experts warn that most of the sites that promise users they can watch Iron Man 3 for free are actually scams.
Most of the shady Iron Man 3 streaming sites identified by Trend Micro experts are hosted on Tumblr, but some have also been identified on WordPress, Blogger, Devhub and blog platforms.
Users who visit these sites are instructed to install a video player to watch the movie. The video player is a legitimate one, but in the past, it has been used to aggressively display ads and lure users to adult websites and content.
While currently there doesn’t seem to be anything malicious about it, experts warn that the video player could easily be replaced with malware, so users are advised to be extra cautious.
Iron Man 3 movie streaming sites are also advertised on Facebook. In this case, victims are taken to all sorts of survey scams that help the crooks earn money.
The Facebook accounts of those who fall for these tricks are also abused to further distribute the scammy posts.
