Everybody steer clear - the Wino has reportedly been cleared to come into the States, and we all know what that means: drugs, booze and a string of midnight fights in bloody ballet pumps. The singer who brought back the magic of "go drunk on stage then forget the lyrics and fall on you're a*s" charm finally seems to have reclaimed her right of wreaking disaster onto yet another continent.
In short: Amy Winehouse has been granted a visa to work in the US. The singer was eventually given permission to perform in the country after being questioned in a formal interview at the American Embassy in Grosvenor Square, London. Amy had previously been refused entry to the US after she, together with her drugged-out husband Blake Fielder-Civil and another major junkie, stylist Alex Foden were arrested and then fined for possession of marijuana in Norway during Amy's European tour last month.
"Amy is delighted. She made a real effort to look good and come across well in her interview because she really wanted to make a good impression. She's desperate to be able to tour the US, and there's even been talk of her and her and Blake looking for a house in Miami". This is definitely serious then. I mean, I can understand why Amy may be so desperate to reach the States - I'm sure someone told her there are new drugs to experiment on the other side of the Atlantic - but what's with all this talk about buying a house there? Are they planning to stay? Someone, evict the people of Miami.
Amy's US ban was brought about by her originally accepting a fine of $714 when arrested by Norwegian police. Last week, her lawyer Oleg Kvelstad revealed she was appealing the decision because she had not realized accepting the fine was the same as pleading guilty. So, everybody, the Wino's in. The only question at this point is whether she will perform at the MTVU Woodie Awards in New York which are set to take place tomorrow, since she had originally signed up to appear at the ceremony, but was forced to cancel. Let's hope she makes it, manages to get on stage sober and doesn't screw up too badly. Fingers crossed.
