Today, Zenprise, Inc., a leading provider of mobile device management software, announced the release of Zenprise Secure Mobile Gateway, meant to offer increased security features to enterprises around the world, and an update brought to its Zenprise Enterprise App Store, part of the latest Zenprise MobileManager iteration, 6.1.

These days, Enterprises are looking into mobilizing their employees, while also looking for a high level of security for the data sent to devices in the field, especially when these handsets are personal devices, and Zenprise's solutions are meant to offer the required security levels in this area.

The new Zenprise MobileManager 6.1, available today, comes with enhanced support for the delivery of enterprise application to iOS and Android devices, and adds the said Zenprise Secure Mobile Gateway into the mix, an extra security measure for companies to benefit from.

The Zenprise Secure Mobile Gateway was designed as sort of filter for devices that are trying to access the enterprise's network. It can allow for some devices to get through, as long as they are in compliance with specific rules, while blocking others.

Moreover, only specific applications installed on these devices are offered access to the company's network, thus ensuring that enterprise data remains secure at all times, and is not affected by the personal applications that employees might have installed on their devices.

“Think of it like customs,” Ahmed Datoo, Vice President, Marketing, states, talking about the new security feature that Zenprise put in place for its customers.

“The Gateway inspects devices that access the company's network, makes sure that they have the appropriate security in compliance with the enterprise's policies, that they does not have applications that should not be installed. If everything is OK, we allow the device through,” he notes.

“A user's device tries to access the corporate email, goes through our Gateway, and we check to make sure the user is authorized, and we let them through.”

The Secure Mobile Gateway would block any device that does not comply to the required policies, including, but not limited to handsets with specific applications installed on them, jailbroken devices, or those running under specific OS flavors, Zenprise explains,

“We have capabilities that can help IT management address some security issues that appear on mobile devices, such as the one recently discovered on Android,” Ahmed Datoo continues. The security issue affected all handsets powered by Android 2.3.3 or older flavors of Google's OS.

Through the new Zenprise Secure Mobile Gateway, IT professionals can make sure that employees install on their devices the applications that would not prove harmful for the company's data, the company explains.

But this is not the only new feature that Zenprise MobileManager 6.1 was launched with today, as the solution was also meant to improve the enterprise user experience through facilitating access to certain applications.

Through the new features the company added to the recently released Zenprise Enterprise App Store, employees would be able to find enterprise applications easier than before, while also increasing their productivity.

Administrators would be able to easily and securely deliver software to employee's device, while users would find out about new productivity applications easier than before.

The number of downloaded applications in on the rise on iOS and Android, two of the most popular platforms on the market, but the number of enterprise applications that users have access to is limited.

However, Zenprise MobileManager can change that, since it would offer recommendations of enterprise applications, would simplify the discovery of required applications, and would also ensure that only the approved software was installed on a specific device.

“Enterprises are struggling with the consumerization of IT - especially as more and more employees want to use their personal smartphones and tablets for work. Now we are seeing the next wave – the explosion of mobile applications--creating a whole new management concern,” said Jayaram Bhat, CEO of Zenprise.

“Zenprise’s visionary approach in supporting enterprise mobility with multilayered security solutions continues to enable our customers to meet these challenges.

"Zenprise’s solutions address not just device management but also mobile application management and security, even for the most complex enterprise applications and infrastructures. In other words, we’re solving tomorrow’s problems today.”

With the new release, the Zenprise Enterprise App Store delivers data encryption capabilities to devices powered by Android 3.0 Honeycomb too. The storefront also supports data encryption on devices running under BlackBerry, iOS and Windows Mobile platforms.

The level of support they offer on device extends to configuring it on behalf of the employee, remotely installing the applications required, and even setting the device up so that it would wipe itself following a certain number of failed attempts to enter a passcode.

According to the company, what made them leader on the market was the level of security they can deliver, and this is exactly the area where they focus the most with the new release.

Zenprise MobileManager comes with Triple Defense Security capabilities, so that IT pros can proactively manage and secure mobile devices, as well as applications and corporate assets.

- Dynamic Defense: provides contextually aware device security, automatically detecting potential threats and intelligently adjusting security settings to mitigate risk
- App Tunnels: provide flexible application security that allows ITA to offer mobile users secure, encrypted access to specific business applications from their smartphone or tablet
