Bette Midler really doesn't want to be known as the grouchy old entertainer. The actress is taking her mea culpa even further after she publicly apologized for slamming Ariana Grande in an interview and calling her lewd and with an annoying voice.

Midler just celebrated her birthday, and in the spirit of things, she posted her birthday wish on Twitter, which was to direct Ariana Grande's next video. This is a reference to their ongoing feud which Ariana ended graciously with a passive-aggressive message to Bette in which she pointed out that Bette was also seen as racy in her younger day so she shouldn't throw rocks at other people.

Ariana Grande killed Bette Midler with her kindness, the actress is still trying to make amends

With a swift move and a photo of Midler in a bikini from one of her earlier movies, Ariana managed to not only shut up the veteran actress, but she also managed to get a heartfelt apology from her, as Bette soon took to Twitter and said that she was taking all back and that she was, at heart, a “reformed old [expletive].”

Of course, it did help that Ariana used the photo of Bette in a bikini and also the word “feminist” in her rant, never showing any sign of aggression or hostility towards Midler, saying that she was a fan and she would remain one, despite the diss (the moral high ground was an advantage in this case).

Now, Midler is extending the traditional olive branch and making a public wish on her 69th birthday: “Yes, it's my birthday! And my birthday wish is that @ArianaGrande forgives me soon and let's me direct her next video...”

For Ariana, this couldn't have gone any better. Not only did she get attention from the media, but she also got the favors of a veteran entertainer, and now it seems that she might even get a collaboration with Midler, all for free, since now Midler feels bad and will likely do anything to make up to the 21-year-old pop star.

People are already getting excited at the prospect of having a Bette Midler and Ariana Grande duet in the near future, and others have speculated that there is a chance we could see Ariana in Bette's mermaid costume really soon too.

The moral of the tale would be to always be graceful and always be nice to people in the entertainment business because their PR department has the skills to take you down with kindness even if you've been part of the industry for almost 50 years.
