An executive for developer Obsidian says that the team does not have any control over the downloadable content packages that will be created and delivered for the upcoming post apocalyptic role playing game Fallout: New Vegas, with the decisions being made by publisher Bethesda.

When asked directly about plans for downloadable content for his new title, Chris Avellone, the senior designer working on the game at Obsidian, said, “No idea, up to Bethesda,” before adding, “They are planning for DLC. I don’t know the specifics for that yet, though.”

He also offered some more details concerning the new Hardcore game mode, stating, “If drinking out of toilets makes you a hero, Hardcore mode delivers. I’ve never been so conscious of water sources in each environment until I played in Hardcore mode. And I eat until I’m stuffed and then some.”

The mode is specifically tailored to those who have found Fallout 3 unrealistic when it came to portrait the post apocalyptic capabilities of a human and will make the player be aware of his limits in relation to dehydration, weight of the ammo he is carrying, resting time, starvation and the scarcity healing items, who now also take their sweet time in healing the gamer.

Fallout: New Vegas takes the player back to the West and puts him square in the middle of the fight between the New California Republic and Caesar's Legion.

Vegas is not as destroyed as Washington and Obsidian promises a more interesting narrative arc for the main character and a lot of gambling opportunities all over town, alongside the more familiar shooting and talking.

Fallout: New Vegas is set to be released on the PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360 and the PC with the launch date set for October 19 in the United States and three days later on European markets.
