Bethesda may bring some of its games to platforms like the Nintendo Wii U or PlayStation Vita, but only if the new devices are powerful enough and don't require massive re-development in order to run its titles properly.

The Nintendo Wii U and PlayStation Vita devices were showcased during E3 2011, and we've already seen quite a few companies express their interest in them, from Ubisoft or Electronic Arts to Take-Two or Activision.

Bethesda may also be interested in the devices, but there's a pretty big catch, at least according to the company's Marketing Vice President, Pete Hines, who talked with MCV about them and how they need to be quite powerful in order to warrant the attention of the publisher.

"Our motto has always been: We want to make our gmaes available to the widest audience possible on whatever platforms that will support the game," Hines said.

"So to whatever extent new consoles fit with the kind of games we are making and support them technologically, we would certainly do that. The Wii wasn't even an option - we would have to make wholesale changes to the games we were making on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC to make them work on Wii."

The Bethesda executive insists that the company hasn't experimented with the two consoles just yet, but, if they're powerful as speculated up until now, we could see future Bethesda titles on both of them after their eventual release.

"I honestly know nothing about the tech specs of the new platforms and whether or not they are a good fit for what we are making with say Rage and Skyrim and Prey 2," he said. "If they are a good fit for the kind of games we are making then absolutely, we would look to put them out for those. But beyond that I can't get into specifics."

The Nintendo Wii U is set to be, more or less, on par with rivals like the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360, while the PlayStation Vita is set to overtake all current handheld platforms with its powerful hardware.
