14 DAY TRIAL // It’s not unheard of for mothers and daughters to share the same wardrobe on certain occasions, not even in showbiz. Madonna would often complain that her teen daughter Lourdes kept stealing her clothes and accessories, but, with Bethenny Frankel, the opposite applies.
The talk show host and reality star posted the photo above to her Twitter: before you think that she’s wearing clothes that seem a bit inappropriate for her (Hello Kitty on a 43-year-old isn’t exactly the classiest choice), you should probably know that that’s her daughter’s pajama.
“This is my daughter's nightgown and PJ shorts. Think we're ready to start sharing clothes yet?” Bethenny wrote in the caption.
So, this is a grown woman, a 43-year-old businesswoman, putting on her 4-year-old daughter’s PJs and showing it off on social media. Maybe Bethenny thought this would make a hilarious joke, but the backlash against her was instant and harsh, Us Weekly reports.
No adult woman should put on a little girl’s clothes and brag about it, not unless she was looking to sending the wrong message to the world – and the little girl herself, commenters rushed to point out to Bethenny.
By dressing up in her daughter’s PJs, she’s showing her child that she can fit into them. So, if she, the mother, can wear clothes made for a kid, that’s telling the kid she’s too big if she too can fit them, other people chimed in.
Others just stuck to pointing out that Bethenny was acting as if she was competing with the child, which, in turn, would make the little girl develop body image issues later down the road.
Even more urged Bethenny to stop the nonsense and just “eat a sandwich”: if you’re 43 and you can easily fit into kids’ clothes, then you’re past skinny. Most people saying this ignore the fact that Bethenny has always been thin and small.
Whatever they’ve said so far, the star isn’t exactly impressed. “When ur 4 year old peanut says ‘mommy please put my dress on’ & giggles uncontrollably, u do what ur told,” she writes on Twitter.
She tweeted a couple of times more since the scandal broke, responding to those who criticized her in the least subtle “I don’t care about what you have to say” fashion.
“BREAKING NEWS! World Scandal: Former reality star, failed talk show host & cocktail maven jokes by wearing her kids' pjs! #itcantbetrue. What will be convenient & economical is if I have another baby & wear their diapers when i'm in adult diapers. #frugalmom,” Bethenny writes.
