Sling Media has announced the public availability of its SlingPlayer Mobile for Palm OS-powered handsets, allowing all the Palm Treo 700p users out there to watch TV on their smartphones.

The software has been available for Windows Mobile devices for over a year, and now, finally Slingmedia has released a version that works on Palm OS devices. The company has also mentioned that support for other Palm OS-based devices will be included in future software releases.

SlingPlayer Mobile is a software client that enables customers to watch and control their home TV via their smarphones as well as control a home digital video recorder, DVD player, video tape player and more. Users can add their favorite channels to the on screen menu on the bottom of the viewing area, and icons for most channels are available.

"Treo smartphone customers want the coolest new mobile applications and services, and Sling Media now delivers the same powerful mobile TV experience for our Palm OS users that our Windows Mobile Treo users already enjoy," said Mark Bercow, senior vice president of business development at Palm, Inc. "The Treo smartphone set the standard long ago for what a smartphone should be, and Palm continues to work with partners to deliver the best possible experience."

The software is now available as a public beta for customers in the US and Canada. The trial version is available as a free download from Sling Media's website while the final version, that is expected to be announced during the second quarter of the year, will be available for $29.99 and $39.99 CAD respectively, including a 30-days free trial, for users that already own a Slingbox.
