Video game developer Blizzard has announced that it has launched the beta stage for the Heart of the Swarm expansion for its strategy game Starcraft II, which will allow a number of select players to test out the multiplayer side of the game.

The official statement from Blizzard reads, “Signing up from a Battle.net account that’s actively playing StarCraft II will help your chances of being selected. Also, we'll be working with your favorite fansites and community personalities to give away more entries to the beta test, so keep an eye out for invites coming from the greater StarCraft community over the coming weeks.”

Blizzard had previously stated that a beta stage would be introduced before the end of this year, but the company has not offered information on when the expansion will be launched.

The developers are trying to maintain the already existing multiplayer balance even if they are introducing a number of new units and abilities.
