Shielding the new technology from the prying eyes of media is a huge hassle, no matter how "educated" the own employees are. The greatest snitches continue to be the manufacturing and distributions partners
, who, luckily for us, keep disclosing juicy details about the upcoming technologies.
I have told you about
Lenovo's upcoming new 13.3" ThinkPad X300 notebook, that seems to be quite a competitor for Apple's MacBook Air ethereal portable computer. Its hardware configuration is no longer a secret and I have covered most of the upcoming notebook's hardware. The MacBook Air "killer" seems to have pretty interesting features, and a balanced price could make it quite a best-seller.
The BestBuy for Business website spilled the beans over one of the biggest questions regarding the ThinkPad X300 notebook: pricing. The website has just listed the ThinkPad X300 for pre-orders and had to leak its price, even before the notebook was announced. Sure thing Lenovo has been deprived of this honor and BestBuy is quite a party-spoiler. According to the website, the ThinkPad X300 equipped with a 64GB solid state disk (SSD) will sell for $2,743.99.
The price may seem pretty impressive, but let's not forget that a MacBook Air sells for $3,098 in the solid-state drive configuration.
Lenovo's ThinkPad comes with a 13.3", 1440x900 LED backlit display, two DIMM slots for a maximum of 4GB of DDR2 memory, fingerprint security module, touchpad and trackpoint inputs, a DVD burner, as well as a built-in webcam. Moreover, the laptop comes with a fully-fledged keyboard for comfortable and efficient typing, just like the MacBook Air.
The notebook also features 3 USB 2.0 ports, 3 internal PCI-Express slots, Firewire, 4-in-1 SD card reader, the brand-new DisplayPort interconnect, Gigabit Ethernet and an ExpressCard slot. As for the wireless options, the X300 provides Bluetooth, 802.11n, Verizon EV-DO Rev A, Cingular HSDPA and WiMAX connectivity.
