BestBuy has put a stop to DROID 2 Global and DROID Pro sales and is pulling the devices from shelves. The company officially stated that both smartphones are subjected to “recalls,” but rumors are saying that the retailer has in fact violated an agreement with Verizon.

It looks like BestBuy has sold the DROID Pro and the DROID 2 Global cheaper than the carrier would have wanted, which led to a dramatic drop in number of units that Verizon had in stock.

In addition, the retailer’s sales for both smartphone sky rocketed, while Verizon's were drastically diminished. Before the 'stop-sale' order was issued, BestBuy retailer was offering the DROID Pro for $50 and the DROID 2 Global for 100$, both with new two-year contracts.

Furthermore, it seems less likely that the Android-based smartphones will make a comeback to the retailer's offer anytime soon, as BestBuy was forced by Verizon to pull all DROID Pro and DROID 2 Global units from its shelves, instead of recommending a higher retail price.

Currently, neither of the two phones can be purchased from the retailer's online store anymore, but customers should check their local BestBuy store.

It's odd that Verizon decided to take action against BestBuy during the winter holidays, when retailers make the most sales. It's possible that the carrier is preparing its own Christmas offer, which includes both DROID Pro and DROID 2 Global.

Verizon Wireless subscribers can purchase the DROID Pro for $179.99 after a $100 mail in rebate and 2-year contract, or the DROID 2 Global for $199.99 after a $100 mail in rebate and a 2-year contract.

Customers who wish to purchase any of the two Android-powered smartphones without a contract will have to pay $479.99 for the DROID Pro or $559.99 for the DROID 2 Global upfront.
