Around 32,000 devices seem to be affected by this problem

It looks a certain accessory for the iPhone 3G/3GS is plagued by an overheating issue, which might lead to direct burns and property damage. Apparently, iPhone 3G/3GS models that feature Rocketfish battery cases sold by Best Buy are affected by a fire hazard problem.

 

In this regard, the retailer announced a product recall of the Rocketfish battery case for iPhone 3G/3GS model RF-KL12, which is an exclusive branded product.

 

According to some reports around 31,000 cases sold in the United States and 1,000 in Canada are being recalled by the retailer. It appears that these cases were manufactured in China and are already the cause of three minor burns to users and four minor property damages.

 

Best Buy also states that all the units affected by the recalls have been removed from shelves in the United States and Canada, so they are no longer up for sale.

 

There have been 14 reports of battery cases overheating during charging, posing a fire hazard threat for the user.

 

Best Buy claims that this type of battery case was only sold at Best Buy stores in U.S. and Canada, and Future Shop stores in Canada, as well as online, between April 2010 through September 2011 for prices ranging between $10 and $60.

 

All customers who purchased this type of battery case are advised to call Best Buy or visit the retailer’s site for further instruction on returning the product. There will be a Best Buy gift card for $70 US or $105 Canadian for each returning battery case.

In the same news, Mophie, a US-based designer and manufacturer of mobile accessories, announced that 6,118 units of its Juice Park Air for the iPod touch (4th generation) are to be recalled as well, due to a faulty integrated circuit switch that might lead to a similar overheating issue.
