The retailer claims the previous announcement was a mistake

Bad news for customers who pre-ordered the HTC EVO 4G LTE via Best Buy, as the retailer has just announced it cannot provide a release date for the smartphone.

Shortly after Sprint and HTC announced a few days ago, the launch of the EVO 4G LTE will be delayed due to an exclusion order issued by ITC against the device, courtesy to Apple, Best Buy confirmed it would be able to ship EVO 4G LTE pre-orders beginning May 23.

Best Buy customers who pre-ordered the smartphone have been sent emails confirming their devices would arrive after May 23, though no further explanation was offered at that time.

Although we were wondering how’s that possible for Best Buy to ship a device that has been blocked at US Customs a few days ago, we didn’t think the retailer would do such a big mistake as to disappoint its customers by providing them with false information.

One day after the retailer issued the email confirming the launch of the EVO 4G LTE on May 23, customers who pre-ordered the smartphone have started to receive another email that says the first one was a mistake.

The folks over at Phandroid have just published the contents of the email, in which Best Buy claims that the previous email provided an incorrect release date for the HTC EVO 4G LTE and that they’re very sorry for the mix-up.

Furthermore, the retailer notes that given the fact that Sprint has not yet announced a new release date, it cannot provide one either, but assures customers that as soon as the carrier comes forward with more details, it will inform them.

In the same piece of news, the EVO 4G LTE was slated for a May 18 release at Sprint, but Apple managed to enforce a restriction order on two of HTC’s handsets.

HTC One X shipments are currently blocked at US Customs as well. Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
