Proving that, when it comes to erecting a new structure in the heart of a metropolitan area, one need not necessarily upset the aesthetics of the place or cause dust to build up in the air as a result of time-consuming construction operations, a cultural innovator in Berlin recently built a new structure in this city's Mitte neighborhood using recycled shipping containers.

Thus, said containers were simply stacked up and made to communicate with one another through various pathways, so construction operations did not really take very long.

Sources say that as many as 34 shipping containers had to be used for the construction of this innovative cultural center, and that all the work was pretty much over in just a few days.

Platoon Kunsthalle is to house art exhibitions and cultural events for two years to come, and will hopefully also inspire Berlin residents and tourists to reconsider how they feel about recycling and about finding new uses for things they would otherwise throw away.
