The sequel to J.J. Abrams' 2009 “Star Trek” will come out next year, word online has it. Casting is now complete, after the director got Benicio del Toro for the part of the villain, one that he refuses to reveal to the press.

In fact, Abrams is so determined to keep del Toro's part a secret that he didn't even tell him which it was, Variety reports.

Of course, this isn't stopping celebrity bloggers from speculating, with some even taking polls from readers or casting bets on who del Toro will get to pay.

For the time being, though, mum's the word.

“Though most roles are cast in Paramount and Skydance's 'Star Trek' sequel, the mysterious villain part was still available – and now J.J. Abrams has made his choice,” Variety writes.

“Sources close to the project tell Variety that Benicio Del Toro is expected to be offered the part, possibly before the weekend is out. Insiders say Del Toro has met with Abrams but, in an effort to keep the role a secret, still doesn't know exactly what it is,” adds the same media outlet.

Contacted for comment, the movie studio wouldn't even say whether they're thinking of adding del Toro to the cast, let alone what part he might be playing if he accepts the alleged offer.

“Abrams is back to direct with Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof penning the script. Abrams, Kurtzman, Orci, Lindelof, Bryan Burk, and David Ellison will produce through Bad Robot and Skydance Productions,” Variety further says.

“Star Trek” is a reboot of the time-enduring franchise, considered one of the biggest critical hits of 2009.

Talk of sequel kept fans busy for a long time, until it was finally confirmed in early 2010. The second film is supposed to come out in the summer of 2012 and, for the time being, these are all the details that have been made available on the official channels.
