It's safe to say that Benedict Cumberbatch has become famous mainly because of his role as the quirky yet brilliant detective Sherlock Holmes, in a brand new TV adaptation that brings the super sleuth into modern London.

The show has proven a feast for smart people who love solving puzzles, and the fact that each season only has a handful of hour-long episodes has made it even more appreciated by viewers. Which is why people are freaking out right now at the news that the eagerly anticipated season 4 of the series might be pushed back again.

Initially, the producers promised that they would return in January 2015 with a Christmas special episode. Fans took that to mean that the new season would follow shortly after, but with more and more rumors saying that Cumberbatch has landed the Doctor Strange role and will begin filming next year, it doesn't look good for the TV show.

IB Times claims that the new season might be put off until 2017, since Benedict might be tied down for the better part of 2015 with different projects, meaning that he won't have time to tape “Sherlock,” which was expected to air season four starting January 2016.

After fans initially rejoiced the Doctor Strange rumors, they might be now regretting the casting in a sort of bittersweet melancholy. Of course, nothing is yet confirmed, as Benedict continues to be tight-lipped about his participation in the Marvel project.
