At the beginning of the month, British actor Benedict Cumberbatch broke several million of fangirl hearts when he announced his engagement to theater actress Sophie Hunter, in an ad in the print issue of The Times of London magazine. Very old-school, very posh!
Very surprising as well: until the engagement announcement, he hadn’t even confirmed the romance with Hunter, so very people knew that they were an item.
Since then, Cumberbatch, who happens to be promoting the hell out of his brand new movie, “The Imitation Game,” which is said to be his vehicle to a Best Actor Oscar nomination, has refused to talk about Hunter or their relationship, though they did attend the premiere together and even held hands on the red carpet.
He’s not about to change anything about that: on ABC News the other day, he was surprised with an engagement question but he did his best to shut it down without coming across as rude or extraordinarily nasty.
If you watch the video below, you will see that ABC was actually hoping to get him to open up (even though he’s offered no indication of wanting to do that), because they titled the video “Benedict Cumberbatch on his engagement news, new film ‘The Imitation Game.’” The man was there to talk about the film, not to discuss his proposal or whether he plans on having any Cumberbabies anytime soon.
Most celebrities would have jumped at the chance of dishing out private details, if that meant they’d get more exposure in the media for their film or whatever. Cumberbatch is proof that class and professionalism still exist in the industry.
