The market for ultraportable, lightweight computer systems continues to grow as several notebook vendors are announcing their latest releases in the field. With both Intel and AMD offering specialized platforms for this market segment, the competition can only benefit the end user, who will be able to choose from a wide range of designs and specifications, in their quest for an ultrathin, lightweight portable PC. On that note, BenQ has just announced its latest addition to the growing market for lightweight laptops, with the introduction of the new 13.3-inch Joybook Lite T131, a new AMD Yukon-based laptop that BenQ claims to be part of the netbook segment.

“This newest netbook from BenQ reflects the personality and lifestyle of the Internet adventurer – spontaneous, resourceful, daring, and capable of handling whatever comes its way,” Peter Chen, general manager of BenQ’s Technology and Product Center, said. “Visuals are exhilarating and performance is without hesitation, ensuring pure and uncompromised mobile enjoyment of the digital age.”

Confusing as it may sound, the Joybook Lite T131 appears like an optimum competition for all those Intel-based systems currently available on the market. The system has been featured with an AMD Sempron 200U processor and ATI's Mobility Radeon X1270 graphics processing unit. Additional features include 2GB of RAM, WiFi b/g/n and 10/100 Ethernet, a 1.3MP camera and a 320GB hard drive. Packed with a 1280x800 resolution-ready 13.3-inch display, the T131 weights in at just 1.8kg and can provide for up to three hours of use, on a six-cell 4400mAh battery pack.

On the connectivity side, the laptop has been equipped with just two USB 2.0 ports, Ethernet, VGA out, ExpressCard, audio in/out and a 2-in-1 card reader. Bundled with Microsoft's Windows Vista operating system, the new T131 is slated to become available in China, later this month, in blue or white color options. Unfortunately, we have no details on the system's pricing and global availability.
