The old HTC Desire Z has just received a new software update via Bell Mobility. Obviously, it’s not Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, but only a minor update that is said to improve the smartphone’s security.

Although Desire Z was initially launched on the market with Android 2.2 Froyo on board, HTC updated the device to Gingerbread. However, this is about all it can get, as the Taiwanese handset maker has no plans to update it any further.

According to the folks over at MobileSyrup, Bell Mobility is currently pushing a software update for HTC Desire Z 4G.

The software will update the phone’s firmware to version 2.42.666.11, and “provides a security enhancement to avoid any vulnerability.”

The carrier recommends all HTC Desire Z owners to download and install the latest software update available, as a proactive measure.
