Canadian carrier Bell promised the Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread upgrade for HTC Desire Z devices since early July, but the update has been deployed only recently.

Owners of Bell HTC Desire Z smartphones have reported the upgrade is now live and available for download.

Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread for HTC Desire Z smartphone was deployed all in Europe more than two weeks ago, with UK owners being among the last Europeans to get it.

As expected, the update is pushed OTA (over the air) and has about 104MB size. However, the update can also be pulled manually by going to Menu / Settings / About phone and search for the latest Android 2.3.3 software update.

Android 2.3 Gingerbread for HTC Desire Z introduces the following new features and enhancements:

- New on-screen keyboard – standard keyboard greatly improves cut and paste feature and intuitive typing for faster input; - Streamlined user interface – New color schemes and interface changes make Android simpler to use; - Application and power management – Android 2.3 will provide clients the ability to monitor and manage running applications. - Download management – New Downloads application will allow clients to control stored downloads from the browser, email, and other apps.

As soon as the installation is complete, the phone will reboot. Users are advised to check if the update installed correctly by going to Menu / Settings / About phone.

Once the download of the update is complete, the smartphone will prompt to install. The installation process will take around 15 minutes and during this time the device will not be usable.

According to the latest hearsay, Android 2.3.3 (Gingerbread) brings along HTC Sense 2.1 user interface, but this is unclear for the moment.

On related news, in case the update does not show when manually searched it is recommended to wait a few days until Bell makes it available to all Desire Z owners.
