No clue yet on whether or not the smartphone will be upgraded to Android 4.0 ICS

There have been lots of issues with some of HTC smartphones available in Canada. First HTC Desire HD was included on the list of eligible devices for an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade.

Then the Taiwanese company removed the Desire HD and said the smartphone would not receive an official ICS update after all.

Today, another HTC smartphone is close to being removed from the list of ICS-upgradeable devices, the Incredible S.

It looks like Bell Mobility announced via Twitter that HTC Incredible S won’t be receiving the promised Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update. The carrier did not offer any additional details on the reasons behind this, but it did mention the decision comes directly from HTC.

Well, the folks over at MobileSyrup have reached out to HTC Canada for more info and got a completely different answer.

Basically, they received a link to HTC’s support page, where the Incredible S is listed among the handsets that are still scheduled to receive the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade.

We’re really excited that we’ve already released Ice Cream Sandwich for a number of devices! While we know many customers are comfortable with their existing software, we also know others want the newest software available.

For those of you who want that option, we’re pleased to say that we’ll be making ICS available for download on three devices: HTC Desire S, HTC Rhyme (global SKU) and HTC Incredible S.

Even though we think the majority of customers will be happiest maintaining their current experience, we felt it was important to give you the choice. Once the downloads are available, they will be posted to our HTCdev website and links to the downloads will also be provided here.”

For the time being, it’s hard to say if the HTC Incredible S will receive the long-awaited Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade due to Bell and HTC having different opinions, so stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
