Yesterday, Canadian mobile phone carrier Bell has officially confirmed the upcoming availability of Sony’s Xperia Z Ultra smartphone on its network, and users can already pre-register for updates on the device’s arrival.

According to Bell, Xperia Z Ultra will be available in Canada exclusively on its network, and it should reach Bell and Sony Stores, select national retailers, and online portals in mid-October.

Users interested in staying in the loop with info on the smartphone’s arrival at Bell should head over to this page on the carrier’s website to register for updates. They will also receive details on the launch of Xperia Z1.

Unfortunately, no specific info on the price tag that this device will feature at the wireless operator has been provided as of now.

Made official in summer, Xperia Z Ultra arrives on the market with a large 6.4-inch TRILUMINOS touchscreen display capable of delivering a full HD resolution, as well as with a 2.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor inside.

“The Xperia Z Ultra is the most exciting revolution in large-screen smartphone entertainment devices and we are proud to introduce it to Canadians with Bell,” said Tim Hernquist, vice president of Marketing for North America, Sony Mobile Communications.

“We’re already bringing the best of Sony technology and design to Canada across a range of premium smartphones, and now we are bringing this same premium offering to the large-screen smartphone segment.”

The smartphone also features 2GB of RAM, as well as 16GB of internal memory, and a microSD memory card slot to enable users to add more storage to the package.

Xperia Z Ultra also features an 8-megapixel camera on the back, with HDR and full HD video recording capabilities, as well as a front camera for making video calls. It arrives on shelves with a thin, waterproof and dust resistant (IP55/IP58) design and with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean loaded on top.

At Bell, the large mobile phone will pack a variety of entertainment features, including six great movies (an exclusive movie access pass to the digital release of a Sony Pictures’ summer blockbuster), a two-month Sony Music Unlimited free trial, and ten games from PlayStation Mobile.

"The Xperia Z Ultra’s large HD display and slim form factor make it ideal for watching mobile content on the go. Combine the Xperia Z Ultra with Bell Mobile TV, and enjoying your favourite sports, news and entertainment programming anytime, anywhere just got better,” said Wade Oosterman, president of Bell Mobility and Residential Services, and chief brand officer at Bell.
