Belkin, one of the big names in iDevice accessories, has announced two new cases for the iPad 2 as part of their best-selling Snap Shield lineup - the Snap Shield Secure and the Emerge 024.

Designed specifically to work with the Apple Smart Cover, not to replace it, the Snap Shield Secure is a thin, translucent case that snaps to the back of the iPad 2.

Its design doesn’t obstruct the iPad 2’s design elements, while the integrated steel strip holds the Smart Cover flat against the case when it’s open.

The material used is said to offer a soft-touch feel, but that it also acts as a shield against wear and tear. Other features include:

- Lightweight, impact-resistant protection for use with the Apple Smart Cover - Integrated steel strip securely holds Smart Cover open - Case snaps onto the back of iPad 2 for form-fitting protection

The Emerge 024 is a different matter altogether, at least when it comes to design. This one has a perforated pattern that gives it a futuristic look, and comes with colored inserts to match the Apple accessory covering the front of the tablet. Features include:

- Lightweight protection with a pop of color - Four colored inserts coordinate with Smart Cover - Case snaps onto the back of iPad 2 and works seamlessly with Smart Cover - Soft-touch finish

Commenting on their new products, Jamie Elgie, senior director of product management for Belkin’s mobility division, said: “These new cases build upon the success of the original Snap Shield and bring a new level of functionality and personality to one of our most successful accessories.”

Elgie added: “People love their iPad 2 and we wanted to give them new options for protection that enhances the product’s design and works seamlessly with the Smart Cover.”
