Belkin has launched Belkin DisplayPort KVM, a switch that’s mainly designed for organizations that handle sensitive or classified information, particularly federal and defense agencies.

DisplayPort is becoming more and more popular in the government sector because it offers high graphics resolution in a non-consumer format. In addition, the cables are more securely fastened, and no licensing fees are required.

However, there are some security concerns regarding the transfer of information.

Belkin is confident that the new DisplayPort KVM switch is secure, mainly because of the mechanisms designed to protect the DisplayPort channels and prevent leakage of information between connected computers and displays.

The device relies on the most advanced and secure commercially available KVM technology to thwart cyberattacks.

Other security features of the Belkin DisplayPort KVM switch include an anti-tampering mechanism that makes the devices inoperable if opened; a system that prevents the usage of unauthorized peripherals; and optical data diodes that keep peripherals from being utilized to breach systems.

The switch also comes with protected DisplayPort channel switching, and dedicated processors with emulators for every port, both features being designed to prevent information leakage.

All display ports support resolutions of up to 3840×2160.

“Belkin works side by side with government users to understand the real challenges associated with cyber security. These insights are factored into the design of the Secure DisplayPort KVM and our strategy to expand on Belkin's secure product line,” noted Luis Artiz, director of product management, business division at Belkin.

“We're committed to investing in innovative solutions that secure the user computing environment and look forward to continuing to unveil new solutions that address cyber security concerns.”

Four different models of Belkin’s DisplayPort KVM Switch will become available on August 1, 2013.
