Forgetting about health issues for a few minutes, the participants got a carefree feeling

A Belgian organization dedicated to helping improve the quality of cancer patients' lives came up with the original idea of offering some truly incredible makeovers in order to remind participants about those amazing carefree moments of joy.

The project called “If Only for a Second” was created by Mimi Foundation and selected twenty cancer patients to undergo a unique makeover. The only condition was that the participants have to keep their eyes closed at all times until the make-up artists and hair stylists are done transforming them.

The amazing idea came after patients admitted to missing those moments of joy when they didn't worry about their health and were just “carefree.” The foundation's staff decided to offer a lucky few exactly that feeling by transforming them completely and taking their mind off their health problems at least for one second.

The outlandish looks they got caused moments of shock and hysterical laughter as a photographer captured all of the 20 participants' mirror reactions. The extreme makeovers included giant wigs and hairdos, bold colors, dreads, weird accessories, amazing make-up and hilarious results.

As expected, the results proved the official theory: by focusing their attention on positive things, patients remembered how it was to walk in life without the cancer burden and experienced at least a few moments of that "carefree" period they all missed so much.

All the challenges a cancer patient has to endure breaks away pieces of happiness from their lives, “an operation is always difficult and painful, the following treatments often long and hard. The impact of the disease is different for everyone but still has significant consequences on the patient's life," President of Mimi Foundation says, according to Daily Mail.

The overall result was amazing and ended up being explained in a special book and exhibit created by the foundation. Also, the staff created a small video showing the impact of the project. Some say that by focusing on the patient's state of mind his health condition can actually improve considerably.

The video begins with a few confessions from the patients that took part in the extreme makeover experiment and finally reveals their reactions when placed in front of a mirror. The project took their mind from their illnesses, at least for one second by focusing on their feelings.
