Scammers target online banking credentials and other sensitive data

Unread messages, blocked online banking accounts, security alerts, and verifications are all pretexts used by cybercriminals to launch phishing campaigns that target the customers of ING and ABN Amro from Belgium and Netherlands.

Experts from MX Lab report that compared to other periods, on April 10, the number of these scam emails increased considerably.

As usual in bank-related phishing attempts, most of the notifications refer to security updates made by the financial institutions. According to the phony messages, the improvements require the user to log in to his/her account.

In reality, the link contained in the email points to a malicious webpage that urges the victim to provide sensitive information, such as credit card numbers, passwords, PINs and other data that is never requested in legitimate emails sent by banks.

Beware of such emails and always remember that legitimate bank notifications never ask for passwords, PINs and other private data.
