Belgian telecoms giant Belgacom says that it is investigating what appears to be a new hacking attempt on Belgacom International Carrier Services (BICS), a global provider of wholesale carrier services.

The company’s representatives, cited by Reuters, revealed on Thursday that they identified changes made to the software of a router. They believe the changes might be the result of a recent intrusion.

The information has been handed over to authorities.

Back in September, the company admitted that BICS suffered a data breach. Later, Edward Snowden leaks revealed that Britain’s GCHQ intelligence agency was behind the cyberattack.

After the European Parliament hearing on the incident, Belgacom noted that many media companies published reports based on information provided by anonymous sources that were “riddled with errors and wrong interpretations.”

As an example, the company described a scenario in which error messages had been identified on six servers and three workstations in the internal network. A closer investigation revealed that it was only a false alarm.
