Kelly Osbourne has lost an impressive three stone (19 kg) the sensible, healthy way, by eating right and getting plenty of exercise. She’s no stranger to yo-yo-ing weight, as neither is she a stranger to substance abuse, having been to rehab three times already. Yet, if she’s to compare the two, she can definitely say she got less flack for the latter, she reveals for Us Magazine.

Speaking with the publication about her drastic weight loss, improved looks and how she’s dealt with media attention throughout the years, Kelly says one thing she can’t understand is how the media put more pressure on her for being overweight than it did for being a drug addict whose life was spinning out of control. Not that it matters that much anymore, since that’s water under the bridge, having lost the extra weight and regained her self-esteem.

“I took more hell for being fat than I did for being an absolute raging drug addict. I will never understand that,” Kelly tells the mag. “The 5-foot-2 Osbourne, who once weighed ‘almost 160’ pounds, recalls walking down the street one day and ‘some horrible obnoxious teenager screamed out a car window to me, “You’re fat!” she tells Us Weekly. ‘I went to my parents [Sharon and Ozzy] bawling, I would rather be called ugly than be called fat!’” Us Magazine further writes of the interview with Kelly.

The star goes on to say that, back when she was heavier, she had a very poor self esteem and body image, but that’s completely changed now. “[I] never wanted to do anything to fix it... For a very long time, Mrs. Field’s salted cookies were my favorite thing in the world... It’s hard to get out of a hole you’ve dug so deeply. […] I’m really proud to look in the mirror and not hate every single thing I see. I no longer think, Why don’t I look like this girl or that girl?” Kelly says.

As we also noted on several past occasions, Kelly Osbourne managed to lose the extra weight and get in top shape with the help of a portion-control diet and lots of working out, a recipe she found successful when she first joined Dancing With the Stars.
