The plane flew and landed, despite how bizarre the concept is

When someone says something (or someone else) swam or flew like a brick or piece of concrete, it's actually a sarcastic way of saying they fell rather spectacularly.

And yet it looks like concrete can be made to fly after all.

David Haberman and Tyler Pojanowski, students at South Dakota School of Mines & Technology, have created a plane made of concrete.

Said plane, with a wingspan of 40 inches (1 meter) was shown capable of flying and landing, despite the incredible weight.

Sure, the landing was anything but graceful, concluding with a cracked wing and fuselage, but it will be able to fly again once it's patched up.

Needless to say, this won't lead to full-sized aircraft made of concrete, but it can help show researchers how to make concrete stronger.
