Beer and Wii, Soon a Reality

- WiiWare will bring you the Frat Party Games

By: Calin Ciabai, Games Editor

There are probably a few people that are already using a mix of beer and Wiis, even though we don't understand how could
anybody put these two together. Anyway, one thing is sure: developer JV Games is planning to bring a bunch of Frat Party Games to Nintendo's console thanks to the WiiWare service and the first one that promises to delight the fans will be called Frat Party Games - Beer Pong.

The reason behind this strange decision to bring such a game to the rather family-friendly Wii console is that, according to the indie developers, even though Beer Pong was "born on a college campus in the early 80s, [it] has grown from a college drinking game to a competitive sport in bars across the country". And we all know that any competitive event that takes place in bars should also be on the Wii, right?

Jokes aside, this WiiWare title will offer two types of play: the traditional Beer Pong tournament-type of game and the Speed Pong, which allows up to three players to compete at the same time. The game will, of course, be controlled by Wiimote only and it wouldn't require too much skill. And, even though this idea might sound crazy and completely wrong, JV games has announced that following the announcement of the game, their MySpace space "experienced much activity". How sweet! Maybe users have put comments, too!

"Beer Pong is quickly becoming a worldwide sensation, from high-stakes competitions being held here in Las Vegas to more and more establishments creating Beer Pong environments to attract new customers," says JV Games VP Jag Jaeger. "Being Beer Pong players ourselves, we realized this is a game niche yet to be filled, and the Wii is the perfect system to replicate the game. We created a very accurate and realistic throw system. No buttons to time your throw with; just hold the Wii Remote like you would a normal ball and throw."

The beer game will be available starting this June.
