A man has adorned his home in Houston, Texas with thousands of empty beer containers. The beer cans have helped turn the residence into a landmark.

John Milkovisch lived through the Great Depression and he prides himself in never throwing anything away. He created the beer house in 1968 while trying to give his garden a new look.

Since then, it has become a local tourist attraction. The residence is covered in approximately 50,000 beer cans, according to Daily Mail.

Milkovisch worked as an upholsterer for the Southern Pacific Railroad. He took up creating the beer house as a hobby.

“I don‘t consider this art. It‘s just a pastime. But sometimes I lie awake at night, trying to figure out why I do it,” he says.

He sold the property to the Orange Show Center for Visionary Art one decade ago, and the foundation now curates the site.
