They can take on various light patterns and animations

Once upon a time, keyboard backlights were only used to make the letters visible in the dark. Now, though, they're also used to create an atmosphere.

The new series of gaming keyboards from Corsair definitely creates an atmosphere alright. The exact sort of atmosphere you want.

They might not look like much in the box, although the palm rest is pretty wide and the aircraft-grade black anodized brushed aluminum body is pretty tough and smooth.

However, it's when you plug the thing in a USB port and start to use the Corsair Utility Engine that things get interesting (CUE for short). It lets you choose any one of 16.8 million LED backlight colors, and even combine color zones, set patterns, or program animations, of all things. It will all be a blast at parties.

Moreover, the keyboards all have German-made Cherry MX RGB mechanical key switches, as well as self-cleaning, corrosion-proof Gold-Crosspoint electrical contacts. Corsair definitely didn't fool around here.

The K70 RGB has the standard keyboard layout and media keys, plus Red, Blue, or Brown key switches, but K90 has 18 dedicated macro keys and dedicated media-keys too. The K65 RGB (only red switches) doesn't have the numpad.

Sales should start soon, for $189.99 / €189.99 (K95), $169.99 / €169.99 (K70), and $149.99 / €149.99 (K65).
